Run for the STARS 5K on Sept. 21 raises money for disability ministry
On Saturday, Sept. 21, the annual Run for the STARS 5K will be marking its 21st year.
For over 55 years, College Church’s disability ministry has been a place where families affected by disability could come and feel welcome. They refer to children and adults with intellectual disabilities as “STARS (Seeking To Always Reflect the Savior).”
Last year, Run for The STARS provided recreation and training opportunities for over 100 STARS and respite for their families. It also has helped to meet the needs of the families who need the spiritual encouragement and encouragement of Christian camps, the STARS fall retreat, and it has helped fund a grant to STARS Family Services to help pay for job coaching.
They are grateful for the corporate sponsors and faithful runners and walkers who have supported them over the decades.
Run for the STARS has always been more than a race. It’s a way that people can come alongside people affected by disability and remind their families that they care.
The run will begin at 8 a.m. along a new route, starting at College Church, 332 E. Seminary in Wheaton. Activities will begin at approximately 7:30 a.m. and concluding about 9:30 a.m.
Sign up at runforthestars.com. Cost is $30 for the 5K, $30 for the wheelchair division, or $12 for the STARS Dash or Kids Dash.
