Master maps skills during a forest preserve adventure

Have you ever felt lost in a forest preserve? Do you have a compass in a drawer, but are not sure how to use it?

Join “Orienteering for Beginners,” on Tuesday, Aug. 13, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at Creek Bend Nature Center.

During this hands-on program, participants will gain the confidence needed to enjoy the art of orienteering.

District naturalists will cover basic map and compass skills, demonstrate how to follow clues and look for distinctive geological features to help keep yourself on course. They will have some compasses to borrow, but bring your own compass if possible.

This program is for ages 9 or older. The registration fee is $2 per person.

Advance registration is required. To register, visit www.kaneforest.com/register, call (630) 444-3190 or email programs@kaneforest.com.

Creek Bend Nature Center is located within LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve at 37W700 Dean St. in St. Charles. To view a full roster of Forest Preserve District of Kane County programs, visit www.kaneforest.com and find us on social media by searching @forestpreserve.
