Schaumburg man facing weapons charges after 5-vehicle crash in May

A Schaumburg man has been charged in a five-vehicle crash in May that followed reports of people in an SUV pointing handguns at fellow drivers in Palatine.

Amine A. Badou, 20, of the 1000 block of Casa Drive, identified as the driver of the black Honda CRV, turned himself in to Palatine detectives Wednesday, authorities said.

Badou was charged with unlawful use of a weapon, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and reckless driving in May 9 crash.

Badou appeared at a detention hearing Thursday at the Cook County Courthouse in Rolling Meadows, and he will remain in custody until his next scheduled court appearance there Aug. 2.

Darius D. Redmond

Darius D. Redmond, 22, of the 800 block of E. Lilly Lane, Palatine, previously was charged in the crash. Redmond was a passenger in the SUV, according to police, and he is charged with unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful manufacturing and delivery of marijuana and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Redmond fled from the crash, officials said, then was arrested inside a nearby business. Badou was taken into custody at the scene but wasn’t charged until this week.

James Howard, 26, of the 1500 block of North Winslowe Drive, Palatine, was arrested on May 9; he is accused of trying to attack Badou, whose SUV had struck Howard’s girlfriend’s car, officials said.

Howard is charged with aggravated battery to a police officer, aggravated resisting a peace officer and obstructing a police officer. One officer suffered minor injuries at the scene, police said.

The saga began just after 10:50 a.m. when officers responded to the crash on North Rand Road between East Dundee Road and Winslowe Drive. Four people were hospitalized with injuries that were not life-threatening, including Badou, Redmond, and two women, ages 53 and 59, who were in a tan GMC Tahoe.

Officers recovered two loaded handguns at the scene; both had extended magazines and one appeared to be modified, police said.
