Dining out: Win free Portillo’s for a year during National Hot Dog Week

We’ve got a pair of restaurant-related social media contests this week, as well as a bourbon and beer crawl in Barrington.

Hot diggity dog!

It’s National Hot Dog Week, and as you would expect Portillo’s has a few offers to share.

From now through Friday, July 19, you can enter their Find Pokey’s BFF! contest for a chance to win Portillo’s for a year (I didn’t know Pokey was a thing, but apparently it’s a beloved mascot). Post a photo featuring your dog or other pet along with a nod to Portillo’s via social media channels while using the hashtag #PokeysPal and tagging @portilloshotdogs. 10 finalists will then be chosen by the public and a winner will receive an $800 e-gift card as well as limited-edition dog toys and merch.

The hot dog shop is also offering free delivery July 15-21 when you order through their app or website. Plus, they’re selling limited-edition dog toys, with $2 from each sale going to Anti-Cruelty, one of Chicago’s oldest animal welfare organizations.

Imbibe on bourbon and brews

You can sip, stroll and sample your way through downtown Barrington Saturday during their Chamber of Commerce’s first Barrington Bourbon and Brew Crawl. A total of 16 stops will offer specialty bourbons and local craft brews to try while participants enjoy live music.

Tickets for the 21+ crawl, which runs from 1-5 p.m., are $35 and can be purchased at TicketLeap. Check-in starts at 1 p.m. at Scratch Pastificio, 135 Park Ave., where event maps and tasting passports will be available.

‘Tis better to give and receive

Carrabba’s Italian Grill is honoring National Give Something Away Day on Monday, July 15, by rewarding guests and helping local food pantries.

The social media giveaway runs now through Friday, July 12. To be entered, you need to follow the restaurant chain on Instagram, like the entry post and comment. Eighty-six winners (Carrabba’s was founded in 1986) will be awarded a prize package that includes a Carrabba’s-branded Stanley flip straw tumbler and a retro-style shirt/jersey with matching varsity socks. They’ll also make a $150 donation in the winners’ names to a local food bank in partnership with Feeding America.
