Gary UMC in Wheaton grows produce for hungry families

Gary United Methodist Church in Wheaton rents two garden plots at Atten Park to grow produce for those in need. Most of the vegetables will be donated to Outreach in Carol Stream.

Church members plan, plant, weed, water and harvest the produce in what they call the “Common Ground” garden. Prosek’s Greenhouse in Winfield provided the plants.

The church at 224 N. Main St. offers 9 a.m. summer Sunday worship, complete with Kids’ Church and nursery care, plus livestreaming and recorded worship at garychurch.org. At 10 a.m., you can enjoy a coffee hour called “Special Blend.” The church will resume its 10 a.m. Sunday school hour for all ages and 11 a.m. worship on Sept. 8. Founded in 1853, the church has music, kids, youth and adult ministries, plus opportunities for local, national and global missions. For more information, go to garychurch.org or contact the church office at office@garychurch.org.
