Wheaton Municipal Band presents ‘Romance & Dance’ June 27
On Thursday, June 27, the Wheaton Municipal Band presents “Romance & Dance” at 7:30 p.m. in Memorial Park in downtown Wheaton.
Under the direction of guest conductor Marcellus Brown, the band will perform music that touches the heart and makes you want to get up and dance. There is nothing better than when music evokes a soulful connection. This week’s concert is full of fun, energy, and soul.
Brown, a native of Detroit, is the director of bands at Boise State University conducting the University Symphonic Winds and the Treasure Valley Concert Band. He programs an evening for everyone to enjoy.
Get your toes tapping to some wonderful marches. Sway to the Latin grooves of “Three Latin Dances” by the Grammy Award-winning composer Jeff Tyzik. The three movement suite starts with “Danzon,“ an elegant Cuban dance. Movement two is a cha cha. Then the work transitions into a Malambo, an upbeat Argentine dance.
Also, programmed for the evening is the wonderful medley of “Phantom of the Opera” by Andrew Lloyd Webber. The 1986 Broadway musical was the longest-running musical in history. The music stirs the romantic tragedy as its haunting melodies and bold crescendos touch the soul. The clarinets shine in Allegro-warp speed of “Funiculi Funicla Rhapsody “ by Luigi Denza. And there is even an Antonin Dvorak work “Through an Open Door.”
Friends of the Wheaton Municipal Band always sell ice cream and popcorn, so stop on by while you are enjoying the music.
Looking ahead to the favorite Patriotic Concert, the concert will be on Tuesday, July 2, at 7:30 pm. The Dixie Cups play a pre-concert Dixieland program at 6 p.m.
Bring a lawn chair and relax in Memorial Park on Thursday, June 27, at 7:30 p.m. when the Wheaton Municipal Band presents its third concert of the season. For more information go to the band’s website at www.wheatonmuncipalband.org.
