Police help resident escape house fire near Island Lake
An Island Lake-area resident was able to escape a house fire unharmed with the help of police Sunday afternoon, officials said.
Wauconda Fire District firefighters were called to the home in the 900 block of Plum Street about 4:30 p.m., district officials said. While en route, they were alerted that a resident was trapped inside and smoke was filling up the two-story residence.
Island Lake police arrived at the scene first and helped the resident out of the house by the time the firefighters arrived, according to the fire district.
A damage estimate wasn’t available Monday and the cause of the fire remains under investigation, officials said.
