Wheaton police, District 200 to conduct safety drill with fake gunfire
Wheaton police will conduct a joint training exercise with Wheaton Warrenville Unit District 200 staff members at Franklin Middle School on Tuesday.
Police and district employees will rehearse a response to a “critical incident,” according to a city advisory notice. The exercise will happen from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and include simulated gunfire.
The city says people should not be alarmed if they see a large police presence near the neighborhood school and if they hear the simulated gunfire.
Police work closely with District 200 personnel “on an ongoing basis to ensure operational readiness” for emergencies, the notice stated.
Signs also will be posted in the area while training is in progress.
