Hanover Township offering free summer lunches to youth

Hanover Township is partnering with the Northern Illinois Food Bank to provide free lunches to youth beginning Monday, June 3, at the Township’s Astor Avenue Community Center, 7431 Astor Ave., Hanover Park and at the Izaak Walton Youth Center, 899 Jay St., Elgin.

Lunches will be available Monday through Friday between the hours of 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., at the Youth Center and 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., at the Community Center. No registration is required.

Last year the township provided 1,458 summer lunches to local youth.

“For children that are used to eating lunch at school every day, a consistent lunch may be hard to come by during the summer months,” said Brian P. McGuire, Hanover Township supervisor. “Through this partnership with the Northern Illinois Food Bank we can address this problem in our own backyard.”

Lunches will not be offered on Wednesday, June 19 and Thursday, July 4. The last day for lunch service at both locations is Aug. 9.

For information, contact the Astor Avenue Community Center at (630) 540-9085 or the Izaak Walton Youth Center at (630) 483-5799.
