Second stage of Naperville bridge replacement to begin Tuesday

The second stage of the Washington Street bridge replacement over the DuPage River in downtown Naperville will begin Tuesday.

All traffic will switch to the east side of the bridge, while the west side is removed and replaced. The bridge will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday while the switch is made.

Businesses in the area will be open and accessible during the construction.

The work will include improving Aurora Avenue at the approach to Washington Street.

The sidewalk on the bridge will be closed. Pedestrians will be detoured to the Main Street Bridge.

What you need to know about Naperville’s Washington Street project

Work to be done later includes completing the center piece, and then finishing the east sidewalk, the railing and other items. The city expects the project to be finished late this year or in early 2025.

On-street parking on Washington between Benton and Chicago avenues remains restricted through at least October.
