Fire destroys Crystal Lake garage, damages attached house

No one was hurt in a fire that gutted the garage of a Crystal Lake home Friday night, authorities said.

The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department responded at about 7:07 p.m. to a reported fire on the 5000 block of Hickory Lane.

The first crews arrived in about three minutes and found heavy fire conditions throughout the attached garage. There were no occupants in the home at the time of the blaze, officials said in a news release.

All residents escaped unharmed and were relocated with the assistance of neighbors. The fire was considered under control in just over one hour.

The single-family home sustained moderate fire damage, but the garage was a total loss, the release stated. Power, gas and water were disconnected from the property at the time of the fire.

There were no injuries to any firefighters. The family’s four dogs and two cats also were unharmed.

The fire is under investigation.
