Learn about village services at Schaumburg’s Engineering & Public Works Open House on May 18

The village of Schaumburg invites the public to attend its Engineering & Public Works Open House that will be held on Saturday, May 18.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Engineering & Public Works Facility, 714 S. Plum Grove Road, Schaumburg. The event is free and open to all ages.

Participants will be offered a unique experience that allows residents and children to get a behind-the-scenes look at what skills, tools and equipment are required to maintain the village’s infrastructure. The event will include touch-a-truck, equipment displays, informational booths, demonstrations, free giveaways, snacks and more. Kona Ice will also be on-site for purchase.

Winners of the K-12 Student Video Contest depicting “What Public Works Means to You” will also be celebrated at the event. The video submission deadline has been extended to Wednesday, May 8. View contest details and submission forms on the village’s website at schaumburg.com/epwevents.

Recognizing the urgent needs of animals at local rescue organizations, the village is proud to collect items and monetary donations at the Public Works Open House to benefit the Almost Home Foundation and Chicagoland Dog Rescue. The public may bring new, unopened items for donation at the event, such as leashes, collars, toys, crates, dog and cat food (dry, canned, treats), dog and cat beds, sheets, towels, blankets and rugs. Monetary donations will also be accepted at various designated collection points. Animal wishlist suggestions can be found on the website at scahumburg.com/epwevents.
