Wheaton taking applications for citizens police academy

Adults who live or work in Wheaton can start applying for the Citizens Police Academy.

The 10-week program will cover various aspects of police work, including investigations, forensics, patrol response, traffic stops, specialty teams, critical incidents and more.

Classes are free and will run from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Aug. 27, through Oct. 29, at the Wheaton Police Department, 900 W. Liberty Drive, and nearby locations.

Anyone at least 21 years old who lives or works in the city is eligible. Applicants also will be subjected to a criminal background investigation. The academy will be limited to 20 participants.

To apply, visit wheaton.il.us/cpa, or mail an applicationĀ to the Wheaton Police Department, Attn: Crystal Miroballi, 900 W. Liberty Drive, Wheaton, IL 60187. Applications are due by July 9.
