Shining Light to host ‘Be the Hero’ fundraiser May 11

Symbiosis Arts and Children of Mary present "Be the Hero," a theatrical two-part production from Shining Light's creative movement classes and some guest artists, on Saturday, May 11, at Resurrection Catholic Church in Wayne.

It will be noon to 2 p.m. in the church’s Marvin Hall, 30W350 Army Trail Road.

Shining Light is a West Chicago nonprofit devoted to making the world a better place for individuals and families through the many services they offer through the various initiatives and fundraiser programs — with “Be the Hero” being specifically designed specifically to help families of special needs children and adults. They believe every child is special, and they support their parents' dream of providing a happy, successful, independent, and fulfilled life for their child or children.

Over the past 15 years, the organization has provided weekly social programs to help foster independent living skills, community service outings, and improvement in communication skills. It also offers creative movement/dance classes to foster a healthy lifestyle and improve motor skills. Unfortunately, many participants live below the poverty level and cannot afford the expenses involved in participation.

To raise funds for these services, Shining Light has one yearly fundraiser in which they showcase a theater production — this year being “Be The Hero” with excerpts from Disney’s “Aladdin,” “Tarzan,” and “Mulan” with vocals and dance.

They will be serving finger foods with refreshments, and there will be more than 30 raffle baskets, a grand-prize raffle, and silent auction.

Tickets are $10 at the door. For information, visit www.shininglightnfp.org or call (630) 231-0013.
