Schaumburg Police Department receives 11th National Law Enforcement Accreditation Status

The Schaumburg Police Department was recently awarded its 11th national accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) in the Law Enforcement program for continuing to meet the highest professional standards of public safety.

The purpose of CALEA’s accreditation programs is to improve the delivery of public safety services, primarily by maintaining a body of standards, developed by public safety practitioners, covering a wide range of up-to-date public safety initiatives; establishing and administering an accreditation process; and recognizing professional excellence. The Schaumburg Police Department was initially accredited in 1986 and was the first in the state of Illinois to earn the distinction.

“I am immensely proud of our department's achievement in receiving this distinguished accreditation, reaffirming our commitment to upholding the highest professional standards in public safety,” said Chief Bill Wolf. “This accreditation serves as a testament to the hard work and dedication of every member of our team, as we continue to prioritize excellence in serving and protecting our community.”

The accreditation process includes public safety agencies that voluntarily demonstrate how they meet professionally recognized criteria for excellence in management and service delivery. The Schaumburg Police Department underwent a rigorous self-assessment and meticulous site-based assessment of policies, practices, and processes against internationally accepted standards by independent assessors. Public feedback was collected to promote community trust and engagement, and structured interviews were conducted with members of the department to assess the agency’s effectiveness and overall service delivery capacities. CALEA’s 21-member Board of Commissioners reviewed all findings and determined the department achieved accreditation status.

By voluntarily choosing to seek CALEA accreditation, the department commits to an ongoing review of adherence to CALEA’s standards. The Schaumburg Police Department now moves into CALEA’s four-year accreditation cycle that includes four annual remote, web-based assessments and one site-based assessment.

“The positive recognition of the Schaumburg Police Department further exemplifies the village’s commitment to providing top-tier, professional services to our residents,” village Manager Brian Townsend said. “I extend my congratulations to everyone in the department for their efforts in upholding national standards of excellence and professionalism in law enforcement.”
