Fire destroys Wauconda home

No injuries were reported in a late-night fire Monday that completely destroyed a Wauconda home.

Firefighters were called to the two-story, single-family home on the 25000 block of West Ivanhoe Road just after 11 p.m. by residents reporting the house was ablaze.

Fire officials said it took nearly two hours to bring the fire under control due to heavy winds that fueled its spread.

A neighboring house also suffered minor heat damage.

Firefighters were on scene until 7 a.m. checking for hot spots and assisting utility workers trying to shut off gas and electric supply to the home, fire officials said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but preliminary work indicates it might have started outside.

Fire officials estimate the loss of the building and contents at roughly $750,000.
