Suburban Skyview: Sun fishing paddlers in Warrenville

The afternoon sun glistens off the water as a couple of fishermen head out to try their luck on Silver Lake at Blackwell Forest Preserve Saturday, April 13, in Warrenville.

There is something about water that helps make drone pictures magical, in my opinion. Maybe it’s the simpleness or the large spaces of similar color it brings to the image.

I know that when I started flying drones I certainly did not enjoy the feeling of flying over water. In fact, the first time I flew my drone over a body of water, the Fox River, I was extremely nervous. Now flying it seems to be second nature.

This photo was taken at about 125 feet above the lake, looking straight down toward the end of the pier.

Silver Lake is just one of few bodies of water at the forest preserve. You can also find White Pond and Sand Pond at the location, and they all offer great fishing for bluegill, catfish, largemouth bass, northern pike, rainbow trout, and walleye.

The nature preserve, which is part of the DuPage County Forest Preserve District is nestled just off Butterfield Road and offers plenty of scenic areas with 9 miles of trails, picnic sites, fishing and boat rentals, camping, tubing, an archery range and a smattering of other amenities.
