Looking for a great opportunity to make an ‘Earth Week’ difference?

The Northwest Council of the Sierra Club, in partnership with the Prospect Heights Natural Resource Commission (PH-NRC), Commonwealth Edison, Prospect Heights Park District, the city of Prospect Heights and Crescent Brands in Wheeling, are co-sponsoring a special restoration workday for individuals and groups to come together to improve one of the area’s best-kept secret nature resources on Saturday, April 20.

The special Earth Week event will remove invasive shrubs at the Commonwealth Edison right-of-way remnant sedge meadow near the borders of Prospect Heights and Wheeling. The workday provides an opportunity for volunteers to contribute to the preservation and improvement of an important native area while fostering a sense of stewardship and making a positive impact on the environment.

The workday is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Saturday, April 20, with a free lunch from Marco's Pizza, presentations from state Sen. Julie Morrison and state Rep. Mary Beth Canty and uplifting music by Roger Hammer starting at noon.

The remnant sedge meadow is located across the street from Crescent Brands, 100 W. Willow Road, in Wheeling. Parking, restroom facilities and lunch will be available at the Crescent Brands facility.

For information, to register, and in case of inclement weather visit phnrc.com/sierra-club-phnrc-workday.html.

Participants should come dressed appropriately in fully-covered shoes and clothing, and bring work gloves if available. The sedge meadow can be wet so if you have waterproof boots, bring them along. Work tools, additional gloves and water will be available on site.

For those parking a car, please download the event waiver on the registration website, fill it out and bring it with you. Only one waiver per car is necessary.
