Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille opens in Vernon Hills as key component of Hawthorn 2.0
Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille, considered an important component in the ongoing evolution of Hawthorn Mall in Vernon Hills, officially opened for dine-in service Monday.
Patrons had their first taste of the flagship seven-finger high pork chop, Prime USDA aged steaks and other dishes, in an 11,000-square-foot restaurant that can seat up to 350, including patio dining.
Construction of the free-standing site at the southwest corner of Milwaukee Avenue and Ring Drive began last spring. It sits on one of three outlots along the eastern edge perimeter of the mall, an area created specifically for new restaurants.
Perry’s Restaurants is described as a boutique restaurant group. Its “Rare and Well Done” dining experience and “Bar 79” (named after the year Perry’s was founded in Houston) are trademarked features.
Among the highlights are an expansive main dining room with views of chefs at work; four private dining rooms; curated menus; handcrafted cocktails; an outdoor patio; and architectural details that includes vibrant colors and the use of glass, lighting and textures to create an inviting environment.
According to the company, the Perry’s experience revolves around an award-winning menu, impeccable service and elegant but comfortable atmosphere. Tableside carvings, flamed desserts and seafood entrees created by Chef Rick Moonen, a member of the American Culinary Hall of Fame, are other signature offerings.
Reservations are recommended for the first Pork Chop Friday lunch in Vernon Hills April 19.
Yard House restaurant on the southernmost lot was approved in February and is in permit review, according to Andrew Jennings, Vernon Hills’ community development director. A March 2025 opening is targeted.
Further south along Milwaukee Avenue, Wild Fork, an upscale meat market, and Mediterranean-inspired Cava restaurant are expected to open this spring in the former Denny’s restaurant space.
Along the southern perimeter, Dom’s Kitchen & Market is under detailed review following a positive concept review Dec. 12, Jennings said. There are some other potential restaurants coming, but nothing official, he added
On Hawthorn Row, the new “Main Street” built on the former Sears anchor store footprint, Lovesac is scheduled to open Friday. Sephora, Anthropologie and FP Movement are expected to open later this year.
