Officials: Kitchen fire leaves Warrenville home uninhabitable

A fire in Warrenville left a two-bedroom apartment uninhabitable early Friday morning, authorities said in a news release.

Warrenville firefighters responded shortly before 8 a.m. to a report of a kitchen fire in an apartment in the 29W500 block of Country Ridge Drive.

Upon arrival, crews found heavy smoke coming from the third floor. They then met the resident outside the home, who reported the fire was on the stove and had been put out, the release said.

Fire officials checked the apartment and found extensive damage in the kitchen, which left the home uninhabitable.

The Warrenville Fire Protection District was assisted by the Winfield Fire Protection District, and the Wheaton and Naperville Fire Departments. Warrenville police also assisted on the scene.

The cause of the fire was found to be accidental following an investigation. No residents or firefighters were injured.
