Groups serving people with special needs can sign up for DoodleBug Workshop session

DoodleBug Workshop is signing up groups that serve people with special needs to come for a special two-hour session. The Workshop, based at 314 S. Main St. in Wheaton, welcomes men and women with special needs, ages 16 to 60-plus, and teaches them to use tools to make decorative and practical products out of wood, resin and other materials.

Adult Day Program and High School Transition groups benefit from these one-time sessions. Participants create a product that they take home with them. Lunch and a stroll in downtown Wheaton can be included.

DoodleBug also has a weekly vocational program. For more information, contact doodlebugworkshop@gmail.com or Sarah Starke at (630) 995-1328.

To get a peek inside DoodleBug Workshop activities, see the recent CBS2 News report on March 26.

The Workshop is also hosting a sidewalk sale on Saturday, April 13, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. which includes a visit from Elsa from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. as part of the Downtown Wheaton Character Trail event.

Executive director Sarah Starke founded DoodleBug Workshop in 2017 because she knew people with special needs like her son Alex were capable of learning to use tools to create unique and beautiful products. They also gain self confidence and social skills and become more integrated into community life. Visit www.doodlebugworkshop.com.
