Wauconda house fire leaves two residents displaced

An appliance fire in Wauconda left a home uninhabitable and two residents displaced Sunday afternoon, officials said in a news release.

Shortly before 1 p.m., Wauconda firefighters responded to a report of heavy smoke coming from the attached garage of a two-story home in the 600 block of Carriage Hill Road.

Upon arrival, crews sent a hose line through the garage to extinguish the fire in the laundry room. Firefighters contained the fire within the next few minutes, according to the release.

The home was found uninhabitable by authorities due to significant fire and smoke damage.

Damage estimates have not yet been made available, and the home’s two residents had to be moved. An investigation to determine the cause of the fire is ongoing, police said.
