Wheaton awarded grant from mental health board

A community mental health board in Milton Township has provided a grant for Wheaton city social workers.

The $10,000 grant allowed the city to purchase case management software so its social workers could better assist clients.

Voters in 2021 approved tax funding to establish the mental health board, the second of its kind in DuPage County. Also known as a 708 board, the appointed panel allocates the funding in the form of grants to local providers of mental health, disability and addiction services.

The city of Wheaton has two social workers on staff who help link people to food, financial assistance, housing, health care and other resources.
