Skyview: Sun sets on obsolete suburban office building

Crumbled concrete and twisted metal rest atop one of the last remaining portions of a structure in the Northwest Point office complex in Elk Grove Village recently.

Two new data centers and an electrical substation will take the place of four office buildings in the $285 million project.

Large-scale demolition projects have been taking place throughout the suburbs in recent months, and the land on which obsolete office and retail structures are located is being repurposed for other uses.

In the photo, and perhaps metaphorically, the sun is setting on the remnants of the structure. Workers have gone home for the day, and as the shadows grow long the wrecking ball equipped crane that was being used for the demolition is idle until morning.
