Troop 199’s ‘Fly the Flag’ fundraiser returns for 2024, uniting the community in patriotic pride

After capturing the attention of residents with a stunning display of American flags last year, BSA Troop 199 has announced the return of their “Fly the Flag” service. The troop is excited to continue fostering a sense of patriotic pride and unity within the community.

“Fly the Flag” is a distinctive blend of community service and fundraising. For each subscription, Scouts place a 3- by 5-foot U.S. flag in your front yard, creating a striking patriotic neighborhood display on five flag holidays: Memorial Day, Flag Day, July Fourth, Patriot’s Day (9/11), and Veterans Day.

“Fly the Flag” is available in the Villa Park Elementary District 45 boundaries (Villa Park, and parts of Lombard, Oakbrook Terrace and Elmhurst). Cost is $50 per year.

The enrollment deadline is May 20; or late enroll by June 3. Visit the Troop 199 site, villaparktroop199.com/node/311, for more information.

Troop 199 guarantees each flag proudly flies for the 24 hours of each holiday. Flags are always illuminated in the evenings, following proper flag etiquette.

Subscribing to “Fly the Flag” not only contributes to a display of patriotism but also imparts valuable lessons to the Scouts about community, patriotism, goal setting, and earning one’s way. One hundred percent of the subscription fees go directly to supporting our scouts and Troop 199 activities.

For those outside the service area or those who missed the enrollment period, consider donating a flag at a cost of $25.
