Ed Block Courage Award luncheon on March 12 welcomes Bears’ Jack Sanborn

The Bears’ Jack Sanborn and other members of the organization are scheduled to attend the annual Ed Block Courage Award Luncheon at Manzo’s Banquet, 1571 S. Elmhurst Road, Des Plaines, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 12.

A meet and greet with Sanborn, the Bears’ linebacker and 2024 recipient of the Ed Block Courage Award, is scheduled from 12:30 to 1 p.m.

The luncheon will also welcome a Maryville alumna who will share her journey and success story, just like Carrie Foley did at last year’s event. Foley brought the luncheon attendees to tears as she recalled how Maryville and its donors helped her.

“Everything that you have done for Maryville is a great reminder of what it means to be part of a family that truly cares for the children,” Foley said. “Without your support and without Maryville, I would not be here today to share how my life has changed for the better. And the next chapter of my story is just beginning.”

The Ed Block Courage Award recipients like Sanborn are regarded as symbols of professionalism, strength and dedication. The winners are considered role models to his community. He is seen as a crusader for victims of abuse, violence and neglect. There are currently 32 Courage Houses connected with NFL teams, the Bears’ Courage house is the Maryville Crisis Nursery.

The Maryville Crisis Nursery is a vital and innovative program that provides free, short-term care for parents in distress and experiencing a crisis. The Crisis Nursery protects the children, birth to age 6, from abuse, neglect or trauma.

Proceeds from the Ed Block Courage Award Luncheon help fund children of Maryville with high school, college and vocational scholarships.
