Schaumburg selects new transportation director from DuPage County Transportation Division
Schaumburg officials have named Sidney Kenyon as the village’s new director of transportation, succeeding Karyn Robles who became the Illinois Tollway’s chief of planning in September.
The announcement of Kenyon’s appointment cited his wide range of knowledge as a transportation and planning professional, with particular strengths in transit and bike/pedestrian programs.
“As a person who is passionate about transportation and planning, I am excited to begin this new role with the village of Schaumburg,” Kenyon said in a statement. “My years of working in county transportation have prepared me to lead Schaumburg’s multi-faceted transportation programs, and I look forward to advancing what is already a great foundation of initiatives.”
He was senior transportation planner for the DuPage County Division of Transportation for the past eight years. There he led projects for the East Branch DuPage River Trail, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Transition Plan, and the DuPage Trails Plan.
Kenyon also supported the implementation of the DuPage County Mobility Plan, the DuDOT Transportation Improvement Program, and the Long Range Transportation Plan.
He also was the DuPage County Trails coordinator, overseeing 82 miles of regional trail planning and programming.
In Schaumburg, Kenyon will manage the village’s transportation programs and services, including the design of roadways, the Schaumburg Regional Airport and Helistop, traffic signal systems, transit initiatives, and bikeways programs.
“I am pleased to welcome Sid to Schaumburg as the leader of the Transportation Department,” Village Manager Brian Townsend said in a statement. “Sid has demonstrated a positive energy and enthusiasm during all of my interactions and combined with his experience in transportation and planning, will be a great fit for the village’s current and future needs.”
Kenyon is a certified planner who holds a master’s degree in urban planning and policy from the University of Illinois at Chicago and a Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Sciences degree in geography and political science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
