Schaumburg Park District Commissioner Bob Schmidt honored by state association

Bob Schmidt, a Schaumburg Park District commissioner for the past 21 years, has received the Master Board Member Award from the Illinois Association of Park Districts.

The award reflects Schmidt’s contributions to parks, recreation and conservation in the state, including his strong involvement with the association’s initiatives, according to President and CEO Peter Murphy.

"Achieving Master Board Member status reflects exceptional dedication to our mission of enhancing Illinois' quality of life through park and recreation services,“ Murphy said in a statement. ”Bob exemplifies this through his unwavering commitment at both local and statewide levels."

Since joining the Schaumburg Park District board in 2003, Schmidt has contributed to the organization’s three-time recognition as a Distinguished Accredited Agency and its National Recreation and Park Association accreditation.

Schmit’s advocacy for youth recreation and leisure has been demonstrated in such achievements as the development of Bison's Bluff Nature Playground and the installation of turf soccer fields at Olympic Park.

In addition to local contributions, Schmidt's has shown a dedication to the broader community by participating in various committees since his election as a trustee of the Illinois Association of Park Districts last year.

His volunteer work, including service to a local food pantry and the Schaumburg Township Senior Center, along with his community leadership has emphasized his commitment to service, officials said.

The 96-year-old association serves 2,100 elected board members from more than 350 park and recreation districts in Illinois.
