Freight train hits vehicle near Wheaton
A Union Pacific freight train hit a vehicle in Wheaton at the President Street railroad crossing on Monday, injuring the driver and temporarily causing Metra delays, authorities said.
The adult driver, the only occupant of the vehicle, was taken to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries, Wheaton police Lt. Patti Potter said.
The crash occurred at about 11:04 a.m. Monday.
Just before 1:30 p.m., inbound and outbound Metra train traffic on the Union Pacific West Line was back on the move, but the commuter rail agency warned of extensive delays.
In Wheaton, President Street has reopened at the railroad tracks between College Avenue and Crescent Street.
It’s not yet clear what caused the crash.
