Lombard Historical Society to host Black History Month events

For Black History Month, the Lombard Historical Society is documentary screenings, lectures, music and storytelling. Reservations for all events are strongly encouraged as space is limited.

At 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, Mama Edie will lead you on a journey of storytelling, guiding audiences to examine through their own stories what they appreciate about their city (wherever it is!) and how their lives are impacted by it. Audiences are encouraged to envision other possibilities and how they can empower themselves to make their visions happen. Registration required as limited space.

On Tuesdays, Feb. 6 and 13, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., enjoy a free guided tour of the Sheldon Peck Homestead. Learn little known details about the Peck family from a staff historian.

At 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, join a Zoom interview with British author, Jeffrey Green as he discusses his book "Black Americans in Victorian Britain," which explores and represents the experiences of some of the black American citizens who ventured forth to Britain in the midst of the Victorian era. While there, they informed the Victorian British and Irish about slavery and repression in the United States.

On Saturday, Feb. 17, there will be a screening of “Sheldon Peck: Portrait of an Ordinary Man in Extraordinary Times,” produced by Tim Frakes Production Inc. with the Lombard Historical Society. Witness the story of Sheldon Peck’s life in the home that he built at 2 p.m.

All events are free and reservations are encouraged. For reservations, visit lombardhistory.org, email info@lombardhistory.org, or call (630) 629-1885.
