Mount Prospect resumes effort to shut down source of bad odors

With odor and noise complaints continuing to pour in, Mount Prospect is resuming its push for a court order temporarily ceasing operations at an animal feed manufacturer, a village attorney said Monday.

Prestige Feed Products, 431 Lakeview Court, recently installed equipment intended to mitigate odors coming from the factory. But village attorney Allen Wall told Cook County Judge Clare Quish that neighboring businesses and residents continue to file complaints.

The village has requested a preliminary injunction requiring Prestige to halt operations until it can get the odors under control.

Prestige attorney Riccardo DiMonte said that after a December inspection by the village the company believed the new equipment was working. Prestige is ordering new scientific testing and will share the results with the village, he said.

“Those complaints need to be shared with us,” DiMonte added, stating that they might help the company determine the cause.

Wall said the village will provide the information.

The parties are scheduled to return to court Feb. 28.
