Learn about needle felting with Bloomingdale arts group March 13

The Bloomingdale Artists Association is offering the “Introduction to Needle Felting” on Wednesday, March 13.

Member Lois Shaffer will introduce participants to the art of needle felting. It’s a creative craft that involves sculpting shapes/figures using wool and special felting needles.

It’s a simple yet versatile technique that results in amazing creations with just a few supplies. Bring scissors and a small cordless light source if you have one.

Wool is the primary material used in needle felting. Each wool fiber is covered in flat, overlapping scales. The action of the felting needle (repeatedly stabbing into the wool) tangles the wool fibers and causes the scales to interlock, resulting in felting.

It will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Bloomingdale Park District Museum, 108 S. Bloomingdale Road.

Visitors are welcome. There is a $10 drop-in fee, or consider becoming a member. The Bloomingdale Artists Association welcomes new members, beginner to experienced artists, or anyone just curious about art.

Membership dues for the calendar year of September through May are $30. Contact Lois Shaffer at (630) 924-1577 for more information and membership information
