Streamwood firefighters rescue resident from home during early morning fire

Streamwood firefighters rescued a resident from the second floor of their home early Friday morning while responding to a fire call there.

The resident was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and released. No firefighters were injured battling the blaze that was reported just after 2 a.m. on the 300 block of Emerald Drive.

Smoke was visible from the front and back of the home when firefighters arrived, fire officials said.

The fire appears to have started in the basement, but the cause remains under investigation.

Fire and smoke damage to the basement was “significant,” fire officials said. Damage was estimated at $150,000.

The two-story, single-family home was rendered uninhabitable.
