Man charged with DUI in crash that killed pedestrian

A man has been charged with aggravated DUI, accused of killing a pedestrian last May in West Chicago.

Jesus Gonzalez, 33, of the 200 block of Easton Avenue in West Chicago, is charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs - causing death, according to DuPage County court records.

Judge Joshua Dieden denied pretrial release Thursday.

In a petition for detention, Assistant State’s Attorney Connor Greene alleged that Gonzalez hit 64-year-old Gene Stoddard at around 8:30 p.m. May 9 while Stoddard was crossing a street.

Stoddard died two days later.

According to the petition, police say they smelled cannabis on Gonzalez and in his car, a cannabis grinder, and an empty beer bottle. A blood test found evidence of cannabis use, and a urine test indicated he had ingested cocaine, according to the petition.

Gonzalez was convicted of DUI in 2011, according to the petition.
