McHenry County's first seeds expo features vegetable, natives, flowers and herbs

The McHenry County College Center for Agrarian Learning and University of Illinois Extension Master Gardeners are teaming up to bring the first Great Seed Event to McHenry County on Saturday, Feb. 3.

It will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Café/Commons B177 on the MCC campus, 8900 Route 14 in Crystal Lake.

Event attendees can pick up native plant, vegetable, herb, and flower seeds (at no cost to them); attend seed-related demonstrations every half-hour (including how to save seeds, grow loofahs, and more); meet with various seed and supply vendors; and learn about garden resources.

For those who already save seeds at home, there will also be a seed swap organized by McHenry County Plantings at 10 a.m.

The event is sponsored by Ball Seed, Environmental Defenders of McHenry County, Platt Hill Nursery, and Natural Communities LLC. Seeds and goods have been donated by Ball Seeds, True Leaf Market, Prairie Moon Nursery, Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds, Victory Seed Company, Cornucopia Seeds, and Eden Brothers.

The event is open to the public and free to attend. Registration is encouraged but not required at mcc-link.me/4YIG50Qpz7x.
