Former Blackhawk great and Hall of Famer, Eddie Olczyk, released a video on Jan. 15, supporting a local Park Ridge mother diagnosed with terminal stage four colon cancer.

In his video, Olczyk noted that Heather Stern, a Park Ridge resident for nearly two decades, is a single mother of two sons. He asked viewers to support the Park Ridge Newcomers Club’s annual Labor of Love Gala at the Loews Hotel, Rosemont, benefitting Heather, Aida and Ellis Stern. Aidan, 22, is a graduate of Maine South High School and Ellis, 15, is a rising sophomore.

Tragically, like a growing number of young Americans today, Heather did not receive a timely colon cancer diagnosis, and by the time treatment began in July 2022, the cancer had spread throughout her body. For over a year now, Heather has endured brutal chemotherapy and radiation treatments, with the latter leaving severe burns.

Labor of Love will have life-changing consequences for this local family. Proceeds from the gala will support Heather’s end-of-life care and the family’s living expenses.
