Fire destroys garage near Addison, multiple vehicles engulfed

It took Addison Fire Protection District firefighters more than 40 minutes to extinguish a fire in a detached residential garage that engulfed several vehicles parked outside the structure.

No injuries were reported in the blaze that was reported just after midnight Wednesday in the single-story, one-car garage on the 4N0-100 block of DuPage Avenue near Addison.

The garage was a total loss, estimated at $40,000 in damage, the damage to the vehicles has yet to be assessed, fire officials said.

Two homes adjacent to the garage were threatened by the flames, but did not suffer any significant damage. Residents were allowed to return to their homes about two hours after firefighters were initially called.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
