Bloomingdale Chamber empowers future leaders through annual scholarship program
The Bloomingdale Chamber of Commerce recently announced its annual scholarship program, dedicated to fostering the growth of tomorrow's leaders by creating a bridge from the classroom to career.
The program is open to students graduating high school or currently enrolled in post-secondary school, including students enrolled in a technical education or certificate program. The scholarship program is a testament to the chamber's commitment to supporting education in the community.
Applicants must be a high school senior or student currently enrolled in a secondary education institution with one or more years till completion and meet one of the following criteria:
• Current Bloomingdale resident
• Bloomingdale Chamber member, their employees and their immediate family members
Scholarship opportunities: The chamber is offering multiple $1,000 scholarships to students who demonstrate a commitment to their education and community. Additionally, there is a dedicated Trade School Scholarship for those enrolling in trade school or certification programs, such as cosmetology, car mechanics, HVAC, and more.
Holistic Evaluation Process: The selection process goes beyond academic achievements. A panel of judges will assess applicants based on their involvement in the community, personal situations, and overall dedication to making a positive impact. The chamber recognizes that a high GPA is not the sole indicator of a student's potential.
Community Support Matters: The number of scholarships available depends on the generous contributions from chamber businesses. Last year, the chamber awarded 11 students with $1,000 scholarships, highlighting the tangible impact of local businesses on education.
Cindy Allston, president/CEO of the Bloomingdale Chamber of Commerce, emphasizes the importance of supporting local businesses. "It is your local businesses supporting your students, which is another reason to support local by shopping, dining, and doing all your business locally. It is not the faceless online businesses support your students.”
A Call to Stay Local: Residents are encouraged to understand the impact of staying local with their business. Every purchase contributes to the community, making a difference in the lives of students. A list of the businesses donating to the scholarship program in 2023 can be found on the chamber's website. Donations are currently being accepted for the 2024 fund.
