Man pleads guilty to robbing friend of prescription drugs

A man pleaded guilty Friday morning to robbing a friend of anti-anxiety medication.

Xavier Garcia, 20, of Brookfield, pleaded guilty to one count of robbery in exchange for a sentence of two years of probation and 180 days in jail. He received credit for the 97 days he has been in the DuPage County jail awaiting trial, and is to be released immediately.

On Oct. 8, 2023, Garcia and a friend were watching television in a hotel room on Pasquinelli Drive in Westmont. A DuPage County assistant state’s attorney told a judge Friday that Garcia asked if his friend had received his prescription medication.

According to a petition for detention, the medication included Xanax and the narcotic painkiller Norco.

Garcia then took the medication and ran out of the hotel, police said.

Police found him in an Uber ride nearby. He was charged with armed robbery, alleging he had a gun with him and had threatened the victim.

Police said he had a gun holster with him. They did not find a gun.
