Home Delivery Service brings Schaumburg Library to your door

Organizing the Friendship Village Saturday Night Movie Club is no easy feat – just ask Irene Bauer.

“It takes a lot of time,” Bauer said. “And you can’t please everybody. I learned that a long time ago.”

One thing that makes this job a little easier for Bauer is Schaumburg Library’s Home Delivery Service. Bauer lets the library’s outreach team know which movies she’s considering for the club, then they find everything and send it over to Friendship Village for her.

“Usually, I go online to decide which movies to show at the club, but sometimes the library makes suggestions, too,” Bauer said.“Everything is always very smooth working with the library. We always have our movies on time. I never worry.”

George and Nancy Magerl take advantage of the library’s Home Delivery Service, too. They’ve lived at Friendship Village since 2019, and they always stop by the Pop-Up Library events at Bridgegate to browse and get even more items.

“The delivery service is very easy to use,” George said. “It really works great. I even have something on reserve now – a VHS tape player to watch old tapes for the railroad club.”

Jeannette Magdaleno, manager of Lifelong Learning and Volunteer Services at Friendship Village, noted how seamless the Home Delivery process is for their residents.

“It’s a wonderful service for our residents,” she said. “They get their books delivered here, and can even return them here in a special book drop for library staff to pick up. And all our residents feel comfortable reaching out to the library’s outreach team to request items and ask for recommendations. We value our relationship with the library so much. They’ve always been such a big help to us and our residents.”

Schaumburg Library’s Home Delivery Service brings all kinds of items, from books and movies to games and equipment, right to you when you can’t make it to the library. And it’s not just for seniors. Schaumburg Library cardholders with a temporary or permanent physical disability or visual impairment also qualify, as well as live-in caregivers of individuals who cannot leave the home.
