Utilities, 90 North Park included in Schaumburg’s 5-year capital improvement plan

The village of Schaumburg is sharing details of its proposed $224 million capital improvement plan for the next five fiscal years that trustees are scheduled to adopt on Jan. 9.

The plan anticipates about $42 million from state and federal grants for funding village projects.

For the year starting May 1, it allocates $11.9 million for water, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, and utility improvements. Nearly $3 million will be directed toward the aging Walnut Lift Station.

Additional investment includes sewer improvements to the South Braintree water basin to address sanitary sewer system defects that result in sanitary overflows and basement backups.

The capital plan continues to support redevelopment of the 90 North District with $18.4 million budgeted for several projects next year. These include finishing the shared street along the west end of 90 North Park and construction of various park features such as a gateway garden, water feature, seating/games area, and tree-lined pathway.

Other projects in the 90 North area include design of the Meacham Road pedestrian bridge, design and construction of streetscapes along North Meacham Road, and intersection improvements at Hammond Drive and Algonquin Road.

Based on community input, the village has programmed $2.5 million for bikeway improvements in the five-year plan.
