Driver transported to hospital after crashing car into forest preserve pond near Addison

A man was taken to a hospital after Addison Fire Protection District officials said he drove his car into a pond at the Wood Dale Grove Forest Preserve.

Fire officials said the man, whose identity was not released, drove into the pond from a parking lot near the intersection of Wood Dale Road and Oak Meadows Drive just before 11:30 a.m. today.

When fire officials arrived, the car was completely submerged and the man was in the water outside the car, fire officials said. The man was able to swim to shore and was helped out of the water by first responders.

A dive team was deployed to check for any additional passengers in the vehicle and found none.

A tow truck was called to remove the vehicle from the pond, fire officials said.

DuPage County Forest Preserve police are investigating the cause of the crash.
