Fleet Feet socks away honor

Fleet Feet Chicago specialty running store recently won the Ubuntu Award at The Running Event retail conference and trade show in Austin, Texas.

Presented by the Balega performance sock company, the Ubuntu Award recognizes a specialty running store’s service and community involvement.

Fleet Feet founders and co-owners Lisa and Dave Zimmer of Glenview donate more than $100,000 annually to local and national charities. Fleet Feet has managed dozens of community running events over the company’s 27 years, and provided shoes to Special Olympics, Girls on the Run, and many other organizations.

Every year, Dave Zimmer operates an aid station at the Chicago Marathon and recruits more than 200 volunteers to assist runners with hydration.

The Zimmers started their business in 1996 in Chicago and have expanded to more than 250 franchises including in Elmhurst and Deerfield.

The Balega company will provide Fleet Feet with 3,000 pairs of socks to distribute to local charities.
