Mount Prospect man fatally stabbed at Burger King in Des Plaines

A Mount Prospect man was fatally stabbed at a Des Plaines Burger King on Wednesday evening, and the search for his killer continued Thursday.

Mario Jara-Antemante, 28, was attacked inside the restaurant at 860 S. Elmhurst Road following a confrontation with another man outside, police said. Des Plaines police are trying to determine the motive for the attack and to identify Jara-Antemante’s assailant, who fled before officers arrived.

Police were called to the restaurant, 860 S. Elmhurst Road, about 5:50 p.m. Wednesday. They arrived and found Jara-Antemante already mortally wounded.

Jara-Antemante was transported to a hospital by the Des Plaines Fire Department but couldn’t be saved, police said.

Police believe the killing was an isolated incident.

Business at the Burger King had returned to normal by Thursday morning. But if they looked, drivers heading into the drive-through lane on the north side of the restaurant could see strips of yellow police tape jammed into a garbage can there, at least until the can was emptied by employees.

A description of the assailant wasn’t made public Thursday.

Anyone with information about the killing can call police detectives at (847) 391-5400.

This is the second homicide in Des Plaines in as many months.

Local resident Amal Reji, 30, shot his pregnant wife and killed the unborn child Nov. 13 as they argued while driving through Des Plaines, police said. Reji was charged with attempted murder and intentional homicide of an unborn child.
