Police arrest suspect in overnight shooting in Schaumburg after search
Schaumburg police Wednesday morning arrested a man suspected to have been involved in an overnight shooting in the village.
There were no reported injuries, but a victim possibly known by the suspect testified to having been shot at in a commercial area on the 1200 block of East Higgins Road at about 2:45 a.m., Schaumburg police Cmdr. Christy Lindhurst said.
The suspect was believed to be on foot and not a resident of the area.
But an hour later, the search was concentrated near the Bar Harbour condominiums in the area of Meacham Road south of Schaumburg Road. Drones and K9 officers were deployed to assist in the search.
Schaumburg police alerted the public of the search via social media at 8:38 a.m., warning not to approach the person described and to call 911 if he was spotted.
Police reported the man to be in custody at 9:18 a.m., but added that their investigation efforts in the area might continue.
Lindhurst said a handgun was recovered. The investigation also recovered shell casings at the scene of the shooting.
While the search was in progress, Schaumburg police described the suspect as Black, in his 20s, about 5 feet 11 inches tall with a thin build, and last seen wearing a black shirt and black pants.
Charges were still pending Wednesday afternoon as the investigation continued. To what degree the suspect and victim knew each other remains an aspect of that investigation, Lindhurst said.
