Over 1,000 turn out for Tom-A-Hawk Turkey Trot

On Saturday, Nov. 18, more than a thousand community members participated in the Tom-A-Hawk Turkey Trot 5K raising funds for the Aurora East Educational Foundation and the A+ West Aurora Educational Foundation.

The foundations provide college and career scholarships for graduating students and also help support school district programs and services not funded with tax dollars.

The third annual fundraising event had 1,053 registrants from seven states, including from as far away as southern California, and 78 towns in Illinois represented.

They wish to thank everyone for their support of the over 24,000 public school children on the east and west sides of Aurora.

The Aurora East Educational Foundation, established in 1993, is a not-for-profit 501 (c)(3) corporation. It provides funds and resources for the enhancement and enrichment of the educational programs and activities of East Aurora Unit District 131. The foundation attracts private funds and resources to support programs and services not funded with tax dollars.

The A+ Foundation is a not-for-profit organization that supports and assists alumni and raises money to enhance the opportunities of the students and staff of West Aurora Unit District 129.

The goals of the A+ Foundation are to enrich the curriculum of West Aurora Unit District 129, inspire excellence in students and staff, expand opportunities for community involvement and foster alumni connections.
