3 charged with having machine guns outside Naperville business

Three people have been accused of having loaded machine guns and drugs in the parking lot of a business in Naperville.

DuPage County Judge Joshua Dieden denied pretrial release Monday for Demarveus Butler, 19, of the 200 block of Fulton Street in Michigan City, Indiana; Terrance Reed, 27, of the 3500 block of West Adams Street in Chicago; and Rubin Tart, 24, of the 3700 block of 16th Place, Country Club Hills.

Butler is charged with possession of a loaded machine gun and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

Reed is charged with being an armed habitual criminal, armed violence, possession of a stolen motor vehicle and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.

Tart is charged with possession of a loaded machine gun, armed violence, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and possession of a controlled substance.

According to a news release from the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office, Naperville police were watching the parking lot of a recreational business at 1515 Aurora Ave. at 11:02 p.m. Saturday. Police saw a Honda Accord with a temporary registration that they discovered belonged to a 2008 Nissan, according the release.

Police said they saw Butler, Reed and Tart get into the vehicle. Officers blocked the vehicle after it was started, and the three men ran off, according to the news release.

The officers saw a Glock 22 .40-caliber handgun, with an extended magazine, near the center console. It was equipped with a switch to convert it to a fully automatic weapon, and had a bullet in the chamber, according to the news release.

Police also found a loaded Glock 19 handgun that had been reported stolen in Indiana; a loaded Glock 27 .40-caliber handgun with a 50-round ammunition drum attached, a bullet in the chamber and a switch to make it fully automatic; a loaded American Tactical Omni Hybrid rifle with a bullet in the chamber; three loaded magazines; and two boxes of ammunition.

The release states police also found 54 grams of cannabis, 21.4 grams of cocaine, 5.2 grams of heroin and several full and half pills of MDMA.

The Honda was stolen in Chicago, according to the news release.
