Navy recruits treated to Thanksgiving dinner in Mount Prospect
On Thanksgiving Day, the veterans of Mount Prospect's Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1337 and American Legion Post 525 served dinner to 50 Naval recruits who could not go home during their last week of book camp. The Mount Prospect Lions Club, Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 660 and the village of Mount Prospect partnered with the two veterans groups on the event Thursday.
Mount Prospect Mayor Paul Hoefert, VFW State Commander Brett Nila, VFW Post 1337 Commander Les Durov and event chairman Casey Bachara welcomed the recruits members for a day of treats, phone calls to their loved ones, games, entertainment and a full Thanksgiving dinner.
After the event, the recruits returned to the Great Lakes Naval Station.
