Arlington Heights Garden Club - New Invasives: 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 27, at St. Simon's Episcopal Church, 717 W. Kirchoff Road, Arlington Heights. "The New Invasives: Jumping Worms, Stink Bugs, Viburnum Leaf Beetles and More," will be presented by Nanette Kalscheur. Kalscheur, a plant and pesticide specialist, holds a master's degree in natural resources and environmental science from University of Illinois and is a retiree of the Department of Agriculture. Explore winter containers at the garden and learn ways to extend your own into the winter season. With this year's successes and challenges still fresh in your mind, get one-on-one coaching from a landscape designer in this class. The instructor will help you determine what to keep, move, remove, or add to make your garden cohesive, balanced and beautiful next year and beyond. Staghorn fern mounts are easy to care for and make beautiful and creative additions to your home, especially for the holidays. Mount your own staghorn fern, mimicking reindeer antlers, onto a rustic wooden board with moss and soil. Focal Point Plants: Presented virtually at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, through Chicago Botanic Garden. Many well-designed landscapes rely on focal points to draw the eye to a certain location in the garden. Focal points can be either nonliving structures and elements or an interesting and effective plant. Discover some of the most striking plants that can become powerful focal points when thoughtfully selected and placed in the landscape. This class will be taught online via Zoom. $52-$65. Mount Prospect Historical Society House Walk: 3:30-9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, beginning at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 100 S. School St., Mount Prospect. The Mount Prospect Historical Society's 35th annual Holiday House Walk will highlight the Triangle neighborhood, immediately east of the Mount Prospect village hall.
