Jury finds Woodstock man found guilty of child sex abuse

A Woodstock man is facing at least 18 years in prison after a jury found him guilty of child sex abuse, officials said Tuesday.

Steven T. Grimmitt, 57, was convicted of 13 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and 3 counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, according to the Kane County state's attorney's office.

Prosecutors said between May 2012 and April 2014, Grimmitt sexually abused two children younger than 13. In a statement, Assistant State's Attorneys Matthew Rodgers thanked the victims for coming forward and seeing the case through.

"I am grateful they trusted us to seek justice on their behalf," Rodgers said.

Grimmitt is set to return before a Kane County judge for sentencing on January 12.
